about

This track was born out of home recordings, experimentation with Ableton, and rumination on bad feelings. Its origins pre-date the current pandemic, but the crisis has served as a catalyst for its completion and release. It is also available on Matron Records' "Ghost Writer - Ghost Benefit Zine & Compilation"

lyrics

There’s an anxiety just below the surface
It lives there like a ray beneath the sand
We tread lightly through the shallow waters
If we step on it, there’s hell to pay

Blood in the water, salt and sand in our wounds
Eventually, we learn to step over it with care
We do our best to simply leave it there
Where it can’t be seen

Once we thought that we changed its form
And kept cruelly chained away in the yard
Was it a wild beast we tamed
Or an apparition we, ourselves, had made

In stories all the villains have their reasons
A tragic turn in life, something relatable
That motivates all their hate
And we cry, but at least we know the reasons why

In recordings, Dylan works with a variety of collaborators, while the live band has solidified into the trio of Dylan on bass guitar and keys, Ben Clary on guitar, and Ben Gerhards on drums.
